CBA Project

Another recent activity conducted by the CAD in early 2005 was the training of community referral agencies and organizations for the initiation of a new, local service project.  This Elder Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault demonstration project uses a specially - trained community based advocate (CBA) to respond to older victims of these crimes in Miami-Dade County.

The training program covers the operation of the project, as well as highlights: aging demographics, data on elder abuse and domestic violence (DV), elders, Florida Statutes, research on DV in elders, and guidelines for working with older victims.  To view and download the slides for the training developed and conducted by the CAD for this project, click on the link below:

The project uses an independent victim advocate/short term-case manager who works across service systems to assess the older victim of domestic violence and sexual assault and help with a safety plan, follow-up services and referrals, and temporary shelter, if desired. All victims are screened and referred for treatment for mental health issues, to further enable them to escape the cycle of violence. The telephone line for the project is staffed 24 hours/7 days a week. Call the project at (305) 693-0232.
